(CMC) joint is the joint of the extension of the thumb to
the wrist. The opposing joint surfaces are saddle shaped to
allow more movement: flexion/extension, abduction/
adduction,
axial
rotation.
Mechanism of
Injury:
Generally due to forced hyperextension
and abduction
of the first CMC joint.
Symptoms
Pain with thumb movements.
Tenderness over the CMC joint.
Impaired mobility of the thumb.
There may be a joint deformity.
